Engineering - Project Performance Excellence with Lufthansa CityLine
Within the project Performance Excellence, engineering carefully examined their tried-and-tested SAP processes. The goal was to improve the regulation of responsibilities taking advantage of a standardized IT-infrastructure.
Whenever Harald Boese, expert for Quality and Procedure of CityLine Technik, is asked to describe his project, he likes using a comparison to traffic planning: »Imagine someone designing a highway network perfectly fitted to the country's needs, and when it is opened for use you always find a sign missing or an exit that must be marked more clearly.« It is similar in Technology: with the implementation of an interdepartmental uniform Software SAP, processes are realigned, which leads to alterations in responsibilities and workflows. These »Interfaces between man and IT system are now taken into account and readjusted « said Boese.
This march the project Performance Excellence was launched. Employees and executives of all technology departments and some from commercial administration are involved. »It was important to us to bring all parties working on one process chain together to find the best solution for everyone.« The resulting project workshops are geared to the six key processes (material procurement and supply, maintenance planning and execution, problem reporting, engine servicing and aircraft modification).
Since then the implementation of chosen measures has begun; the project itself is to be concluded by the end of the year. »We made great progress particularly in the field of communications and interface functions «, Rainer Lindau, head of technology, says, taking stock. »Special thanks is due to our employees. They have mastered the challenge of implementing SAP with much enthusiasm and have contributed to the success of Performance Excellence with their knowledge from everyday practice. «
